Dr. Chulmo Koo is a Professor at the Smart Tourism Education Platform (STEP) within the College of Hotel and Tourism Management at Kyung Hee University, South Korea. A leading scholar in smart tourism, Dr. Koo has built an exceptional record of research and academic contributions across tourism and hospitality.

He has received numerous prestigious recognitions, including the Kyung Hee Research Fellowship (2018–2020), LG President’s Award (2017), and the Kyung Hee University Excellent Professor Award (2019). From 2021 to 2024, he was consecutively listed among the top 2% of researchers worldwide by Stanford University and Elsevier. In addition, he was selected as a Highly Cited Researcher (HCR, top 1%) by Clarivate—a distinguished global honor.

Dr. Koo is the founder of the World Conference on Smart Tourism (WCST) and the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Smart Tourism (JST), both of which have become important platforms for advancing scholarship and global collaboration in the field.
