Estela Marine-Roig

In 2013, she defended her doctoral thesis on Tourism and Leisure. An international examining committee gave her the mention of “Doctor Europeus” and granted the thesis a grade of “Summa cum laude“. In 2015, the International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel & Tourism awarded her the 2015 IFITT Thesis Excellence Award for a Doctoral Thesis: among the competing nominees the thesis stood out for its innovativeness, scientific rigour, and relevance to the Tourism field, and the Governing Board of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) awarded her the 2013/2014 extraordinary prize of Doctorate in Social and Juridical Sciences. In 2018, the Catalan Government (DOGC 7735) awarded her the 2018 Medal of Tourism, for the best knowledge and research project referred to the tourism sector, for a research on the image and identity of Catalonia as a tourist destination. She has published in tourism and hospitality journals indexed in the Web of Science first decile, such as Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, and the International Journal of Hospitality Management. Currently, she is Full Professor in Tourism Marketing and Coordinator of Social Media Marketing (MSc) at the University of Lleida (UdL), Catalonia; Supervisor of Master’s theses on Advanced use of ICT in Tourism at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC); post-doctoral researcher in the research group on Tourism and Social Knowledge Economy (TURESCO 2021-SGR-0001) of the UdL; and Associate editor of the European Journal of Travel Research. Her research interests include the analysis of the image and identity of tourist destinations through online tourism sources.
