Carlo Fontana graduated in law at the University of Milan in 1990. After a brief internship at the Michelangelo Hotel in Milan, in the same year he starts his career at the Hotel Lugano Dante Center. At first he worked as a receptionist, then as Front Office Manager and management assistant until becoming CEO. From 2003 till 2017 he was also CEO of the Hotel Berna in Milan, being during that time member of the executive board of the Hotelier Association of Milan. With a great pride in managing the Guest Experience and finding new ways to surprise and delight the guests, both hotels have a great online reputation, having the highest number of guest comments on TripAdvisor in Switzerland and Italy. From April 2009 until May 2011 he was also President of Hotellerie Suisse Lugano and from 2017 till 2021 member of the board of directors of Lugano Tourism. The Hotel Lugano Dante was rewarded in 2012 from the “Swiss Quality Hotels International“ chain of the “Excellent Guest Satisfaction” Award. In the same year the trip portal Tripadvisor.com nominated him Travellers’ Choice 2013 Winner (Best service in Switzerland), whereas in the month of May he was rewarded by Swiss Tourism the “Prix Bienvenue 2013“, an award which is reserved for the most hospitable city hotel in Switzerland. In November 2013, the Hotel Lugano Dante was also selected from the prestigious HTNG (The Hotel Technology Next Generation global Association), in occasion of the 8th EMEA European Conference in London, as the winner of their “Hotel Technology Innovators Award“. In 2013 he is the founder of the start-up company Hoxell.com, a Guest Experience web app created from scratch to respond to the hoteliers‘ needs to boost guests satisfaction and grow customers loyalty through Staff empowerment. In October 2014 Carlo was awarded from Cornell University a Certificate of Appreciation for presenting high quality research insights during the Cornell Hospitality Research Summit (CHRS).
